Help for children's Christmas needs.

My son received help 2 years ago after a guidance counselor at his daughters elementary school referred her to the Kiwanis Club Holiday program. The next year the counselor gave the children's names to a local church that was adopting some children/families for Christmas. Please try to contact your child's school and find out if they have similar type of programs set up or if you will you can try to call some churches yourself or the Kiwanis Club. Blessing and I hope it all works out.

Don't look a gift horse...

I actually used to hate this saying growing up, but there is a great truth in it. If someone is trying to help you because you asked for help it is not polite to mock them because they are helping in the way they can help. Sure, during my struggles with monies recently I wanted very much to get that cash in hand. I never did, but things worked out via another blessing. However, I never looked at those trying to help and said "You're not helping me". I told them thanks for their help and continued to speak with them.

You see, some of the best help we can receive as members of the human race is emotional support and guidance during our mundane struggles. In the end, even with all the monies and mundane comforts in the world people are empty without friends, support, and those things that make us part of the cosmic spiritual universe. I may not be able to provide everyone who asks me with monies, I can barely get paid for doing tutoring and tarot readings but I can offer guidance, emotional support, and friendship. It is my hope that people will accept me for what I can give, and not reject me for what I cannot give.

About FredMeg

Hi,

I need help, financial, emotional and guidance. I have been with this mother of a 3 year old for over a year now and love her to death. She has mental disabilities that have come to light throughout our relationship. She is seeing a doctor now, this is highly unliked by her family. She lives at home as do I, we have been trying to save money to move out but, it constantly seems to be an uphill battle and the money is never enough. Her brother has since stole her medication (for manic depressive) and will steal anything he can from her on a number of occasions. Her family physically and more than that are cruel with the mental abuse they put on her. She then takes it out on me and its a terrible cycle that seems to have no end except by our relationship ending. I do not want to just walk away and leave her in that situation. I dont have the money to get her out and I am losing my mental strength to deal with all the problems brought on by her family and living in that house. Any help would be appreciated, I am out of optins and dont know where to turn to.

I'm not so hot on the computer and\or the internet, so searching for some kind of help with my issue has been very tedious.  This site looks to be the most helpful and most unadvertised site i could find.  Im  27 and am getting surgery in a few days on my shoulder.  I am fortunate enough to have medical insurance and a company to go back to after my recovery.  My insurance disability does not take affect for 3 months, and i hope to be back to work around that time.  I realize in these hard times my situation must seem trivial to many people who are struggling with things i can only hope i never have to face.  I am still trying to come up with a way to make it the 2-3 months where i can not work.  I have been looking for government programs on the internet and have made a few phone calls, but it does not look like there is anything out there for people in my situation.  I am not looking forward to racking up credit card bills for rent, food, insurance, and the many other things I have to pay for that I won't even realize until I don't have an income.  I live in Illinois and could use some advice or guidance on this matter.  Thank you.

Now Is A Terrific Time To Do Something For Yourself

In today's challenging economic climate, the last thing you need is added stress over employment.  Losing a job is one of the most significant stressors both personally and professionally for most people.  Now is a teriffic time to do some serious employment reflection because not only is taking a proactive approach is the most cost effective and efficient way to assist yourself if you do lose that job, but it's also likely to reduce the amount of time you spend being unemployed.

While there is no sure fire way of knowing how your company is fairing without some inside information from the powers that be, there are some office changes that you could look to in order to at least hazard a guess as to which way the winds are shifting, if at all.

 [1] Watch your supervisors

Generally speaking, higher ups, whenever possible, jump ship right before it sinks so if there seems to be an unusually high rate of turnover from upper management, that could be a sign.

[2] Watch your co-workers

Higher turnover in employees of any position may be a sign that your company is not fairing that well.  Churning through new employees is a last ditch effort for most companies that don't know how to address their failures before they have to shut down permanently and usually comes just before or during the layoff period.

[3] Watch your office for Extensive time off

When your co-workers and supervisors are interviewing, or thinking of interviewing at other companies, they tend to take more personal days.  If you notice a spiked increase in workplace absenses, this could be a sign that people see the end and are preparing for it.

[4] Know your business

Most companies don't like to let go of their employees, but sometimes it's the only available option left to stave off a bankruptcy.  As a general rule, the closer you are to the product or service that your company provides, the longer you will be able to hold on to your job.  So figure out where your position fits into your business-honestly.  If your job seems very tangential to your companies business, your department is more likely to go early in a round of layoffs.

Whether or not you know or believe your company or department is headed under, taking these steps will benefit you emotionally as well as professionally.

Update Your Resume  Now is a GREAT time to sit down and start thinking about yourself positively.  A resume, at its essence, is a consise set of factual accomplishments that make you a SUPER employee.  Updating and polishing the ol' resume will not only be easier when not done under the stress associated with having just been fired, but it will force you into viewing yourself in a positive and re-affirming way.

Stay in Touch   Don't be afraid to pull out all those old and largely forgotten business cards that you've collected.  Place a call to friends, acquaintences and business contacts.  These referals will be your best employment resource in the future and those most likely to help if they know that you need it.   So drop a line today and see if they could use a hand.  Someday soon they may be able to repay the favor.

Pick up a new talent Now's a great time to take a class or seminar in your field.  Show your employer that you consider your position worthwhile of the time and attention you're putting into it and they will too.  These new skills you develop can only help while looking for a new job and its a great place to meet new people in your field or the field you want to be in.

Think about A New Field  The best time to mull over that new career you want to shoot for is before you're unemployed.  Once you're unemployed, your focus will immediately shift towards getting a new job of any type to keep you going.

INVEST IN YOURSELF Many, Many people are a job loss or a divorce away from losing it all.  Worse still is that when these events occur people rarely see them coming, and often say that they could never have imagined the situation they find themselves faced with happening to them.  Unfortunately, they do happen; they happen every day to lots of people.  Now more than ever, particularly if you're employment situation is stable, start putting your financial resources together for the future so that in the event of a tragic personal situation such as job loss or divorce you are better prepared to make it through.

I thank you for taking the time to listen,

Best Regards

About danniken

Good Lord where to start. I am a Federal contractor who lost his job due to a "whistleblower" situation a little over a year ago. I collected unemployment until that ran out and then we had to resort to selling off our valuables and even selling blood plasma just to live. Thankfully, recently the government passed an emergency extension of unemployment benefits and we got that and since we've found it impossible to find work where we are in Arkansas we are packing to move to the Northern Virginia / Washington DC area where I know I can quickly find work. Our problem is we have VERY limited funds and will need to find a place to live while we seek work - and still be able to eat and have transportation etc. It is just me and my wife and we are both 52 years old and we've both always been able to find good jobs quickly we just came here where we are in Hot Sprnigs AR because it was cheap living and it did help to stretch our money after I lost my job. Big mistake! Nobody here is hiring computer and electronics engineers and unless you are willing to work fast food or something like that there are no jobs to be had. We are leaving tonight or by Monday 11/3/08 at the latest and just need a place to live that is safe and clean and hopefully near a Metro station or bus line. And help/references/advice would be deeply appreciated! God Bless! Daniel & Nancy.
